Many patches of uncut grass remain on the lawn

Step 1 – Has the mower completed a full cycle on this given zone/area? A Mowing Cycle is the full amount of repeated mowing sessions a zone/area gets according the size you gave that zone on your Lawn Options ⇢ Zones settings. Before a full cycle is completed the given zone will look undone with patches of uncut grass. Is this the case here?

If Yes – Simply let the mower finish a full Mowing Cycle which is basically half a week.

If No – Proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 – Is it a new installation or changes have been made in the lawn/installed perimeter wire lately?

If Yes – Proceed to Step 3.

If No – Proceed to Step 4.

Step 3 – Are you sure the installation was done according the rules, and the lawn size settings (in the mower) are the actual lawn/zones dimensions?

If Yes – Proceed to Step 4.

If No – Recheck the perimeter wire installation and the mower’s settings. If a wrong installation or settings were found, correct it and let the mower complete full mowing cycle (2-3 days) to understand and see whether the coverage problem was solved or still existing.

Step 4 – Is it the first cut of the season or the grass is very high?

If Yes – Check that mow height level is not too low, increase mowing height and let the mower complete a full mowing cycle (2-3 days).

If No – Proceed to Step 5.

Step 5 – Does this happen in one specific place or all around the lawn?

If Yes – Run the mower in the problematic area and observe if odd behavior can be seen. If needed open Service ⇢ 897 code ⇢ Special Displays ⇢ Behavior screen to learn more of what the mower detects in this place. Correct the installation according what you learn from the Behavior screen.

If No – This occurs all around the lawn. Proceed to Step 6.

Step 6 – Are we in the peak mowing season, so the grass is growing very fast?

If Yes – Here are some options to correct this:

  1. Go to Lawn Options ⇢ Zones ⇢ Edit and increase this zone (Main or other) size one level up (Kind of “Cheating” with the area size to increase the mowing time it gets) and check whether this improves the coverage problem.
  2. If this zone (Main or other) is already at “Max” zone size, increase the Mowing Intensity of this zone by a few percent (10% for instance) and check whether this improves the coverage problem. Let the mower complete full mowing cycle (2-3 days) to understand if the coverage problem was solved or still existing.
  3. For both the above solutions, if needed, you can increase the zone size even more or if “Maxed,” increase the Mowing Intensity to more than 10%.
  4. Decrease Inactive time and days if possible and see if it helps.

If the above 4 solutions didn’t help, increase the Mowing Frequency. Here are the available Mowing Frequency settings:

LOW is doing one mowing cycle per zone per week.
MEDIUM is the default and is doing two mowing cycles per zone per week.
HIGH is doing a daily mowing cycles per zone per week, but works only half of the time per mowing session, in order to be able to do all zones every day.

For all the above three Mowing Frequency options, “High” is mowing the greatest area and mowing time. Let the mower complete full mowing cycle (2-3 days) to understand if the coverage problem was solved or still existing.

If all answers up to now are not solving the problem, proceed to Step 7.

Step 7 – Retrieve data from the mower. Review and compare to expected values shown below. If one or more of the values are out of range, act according to the tips listed. In case you find discrepancies, change and update the mower or installation as needed.

Behavior Values

  • Expected Values
In the US – Factory default is 2.3 inch (50 mm) height. This is the mid-level between the minimum 1.1 inch (20 mm) and the maximum 3.25 inch (80 mm)
  • Tips
Reduce the height by 10 mm each time
